AI OVERVIEW:
NTX Mesh is a community-built, decentralized radio network in the North Texas/Dallas-Fort Worth area that uses Meshtastic and MeshCore technologies to provide off-grid text communication. [1]
How It Works
- No Infrastructure: The network operates entirely without cell towers, Wi-Fi, or internet access. [1, 2]
- LoRa Radio Technology: It uses affordable, low-power long-range (LoRa) radio nodes that connect to your smartphone via Bluetooth. [3, 4, 5]
- Mesh Routing: Each radio node acts as a repeater, automatically passing messages along to other nodes to extend the communication range across the city. [1, 6, 7]
- Public and Private Channels: Users can chat publicly with the local North Texas community or set up private, encrypted channels for family and friends. [1]
Key Purposes
- Emergency Preparedness: Designed to maintain communication during severe weather or grid failures.
- Community Owned: Maintained completely by local volunteers with no subscriptions, fees, or corporate gatekeepers. [1]
