ABSTRACT: Dayton Mesh

Dayton Mesh is a community group working to bring together existing Meshtastic users in the greater Dayton, Ohio metro, to help and encourage new Meshtastic users in the area, to organize a universal local mesh protocol, and to provide the larger scale infrastructure necessary to facilitate a more interconnected Meshtastic network for our city.

AI OVERVIEW:
What is Meshtastic?
- How it works: Instead of relying on cell towers or the internet, devices relay messages to one another like a digital chain letter. As more users join, the “mesh” expands, extending communication range across the city.
- Key Benefits: It is completely free to use (no cellular bills), bypasses traditional infrastructure, and batteries can last for days or indefinitely when paired with small solar panels.
- Build Infrastructure: They organize and deploy larger-scale nodes (like fixed rooftop repeaters) to facilitate wider interconnectivity throughout Dayton.
- Provide Support: They help new users learn to program their devices, establish local channel protocols, and map out the local mesh.
- Use Cases: Ideal for communities, hiking, biking, disaster preparedness, or secure, private communication, utilizing 915 MHz frequencies.
